Hormone Replacement Therapy improves health, restores quality of life, and saves the healthcare system billions — yet Ontario women pay out of pocket while the province looks the other way. This ends now.
The Problem
Menopause affects every woman. Yet in Ontario, accessing effective treatment requires the financial means to pay for it privately. Women without employer benefits or access to informed physicians are left to suffer in silence.
HRT is not a cosmetic treatment. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and cognitive decline. It allows women to remain in the workforce, maintain relationships, and live with dignity. It is essential healthcare.
The Ontario Legislature can change this. And with enough voices demanding action, they will.
Read the EvidenceHRT prescriptions cost Ontario women $170–$200 per month, paid entirely out of pocket by those without private insurance.
Many family physicians have little to no menopause training. Women are dismissed and left without appropriate care for years.
1 in 10 Canadian women leave the workforce early due to untreated menopause symptoms. Ontario's economy pays the price.
Racialized women, low-income women, and rural women face the greatest barriers to HRT access. This is a health equity issue.
Who This Affects
The fight for HRT coverage is not just for women already struggling. It is for every woman who will one day need this care — and for the families and employers affected when women are left without support.
Starting as early as their 30s, women deserve early access to treatment — not a waiting game.
Untreated symptoms affect concentration, sleep, and performance. HRT access keeps women fully present at work.
When a mother or partner is suffering, the whole household is affected. HRT access is a family issue.
Preventing osteoporosis and cardiovascular events through HRT costs the system far less than treating them after the fact.
